Paid Downloads:
*Downloads are no longer available in Spotify. However, any gift cards that were previously purchased are still being honored.
Paid Streams:
For songs streamed, Spotify has deals with necessary rights holders in all of its launch countries. Spotify and these rights holders have agreed upon a royalty based on how frequently your music is played. Each stream earns you a share of Spotify's advertising revenue. The actual amount varies and depends on the ratio of advertising revenue and your percentage of the total number of streams on Spotify in a given month.
NOTE: Spotify displays any releases that have 5 songs or less and are under 30 minutes in total length, in the "Singles" section of their store. For more information, please readthis article.
